Desmond's Replacement

I bought a new t-shirt today. If you would like one, hurry: they're only available for a little over 9 more hours.

I wish I was there.

First image from 'Paul'!

From left: Blythe Danner, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Kristen Wiig

For those who don't know, Paul is
"a comedy about two sci-fi geeks who embark upon a pilgrimage in a RV to the center of America's UFO heartland: Nevada's infamous Area 51. While in the middle of that desert, the two friends encounter a fugitive alien by the name of Paul. Somewhat reluctantly, they embark upon an adventure that will change not just their lives forever, but also the lives of the friends and enemies they encounter along the way." (from imdb)

I cannot wait to see this!

LOST University: Enroll Now

Today is the fifth anniversary of the crash of Flight 815 (and the series premiere), and it's also the day that ABC launches LOST University, which I assume is, like previous online ARGs and show-related websites, a way to keep folks interested in the show until it comes back in January.

I just found out about this through a Lostpedia tweet and then raced here to share the information with you, so I really have no idea what this is all about. Except that it looks like fun.

I'm going to go enroll and see what's what. Maybe you should, too. Classes start December 8, 2009.

Another LOST poster is available.

And I think I may like this one the best so far. Buy it here, while you can.

Awesome.

"In celebration of LOST's final season and as a project of fan appreciation, 16 top designers and artists, who are also fans of the show, were commissioned to create artwork celebrating one of the series' most memorable, and unforgettable, "water cooler" moments. This ultimate "fan art" was then turned into labor intensive, hand-pulled screen prints, limited to an edition of just 300, with less than 200 available to the public through our websites. Each beautiful poster tells its own different story, allowing the fan to relive memorable and influential moments in an artistic manner, as the show's storied run comes to a close. Once this limited edition print has sold out, they will never be printed again. Celebrate the fandom, community and family created by one of televisions' greatest shows by hanging a little part of it's history, inspiration and influence on your wall."

Road trip to Minneapolis, anyone?

Undead Frank Lives:
The stunning new interior comes straight out of a 1950s Las Vegas lounge (the classic part). The zombie stuff (i.e. the kitsch) is hilarious, and more nuanced than you'd expect from a bar named Donny Dirk's Zombie Den. In the corner, a small chainsaw sits inside a glass case that reads "In case of zombie attack, break glass." The bartenders all dress like Simon Pegg in "Shaun of the Dead" -- white button-up, red tie and blood stains. The friendly female servers wear long black gowns. Again: This is a classy zombie joint.

LOST: 100th Episode Cake!

Ace of Cakes made a very awesome cake for LOST's 100th episode party, and LOSTMedia has some great photos of the little party they had.

Yes, that's a Dharma Beer can cake!

Amazing Earth Hour Photos

The Boston Globe online has posted some amazing photos of cities around the world taken during Earth Hour on Saturday. Each photo shows the city fully lit, but when you click on it, the image slowly fades to the "lights out" version. It's a great effect and the photos are beautiful.

Ever hit "Reply All" by mistake?

And you knew what happened as soon as you clicked that button and you wished there was some way to get that incriminating e-mail back?

Well now there is, if you use GMail:

To address this problem, Google Inc.'s Gmail Labs has launched an experimental feature called "Undo Send" that gives users a chance to rewrite their message, correct settings or simply fix typos.

When a Gmail user who enables this feature sends an e-mail, a button that says "Undo" will pop up on their screen for five seconds. If the user hits the button within that time, the service will retrieve the e-mail in draft form -- allowing the user to make changes or cancel the message altogether.

A "five second rule" for e-mail. It's about time!

ETA: OK, I should have tested this before I posted the article...I enabled the setting on my gmail account (it's under the "Labs" tab under "Settings") and sent a test e-mail to myself. I saw no message giving me the option to cancel. I tried over and over until I realized it was working, I just couldn't see it because it flashed on my screen (see image above) for about one second, NOT the 5 seconds they claim. It wasn't easy getting a screen grab of that!

I'm not sure why I didn't get the full 5 seconds, and I'd be interested in hearing from you about it.

Who's up for a road trip?

U2 announced their U2 360° Tour today, with the first leg of the tour hitting stadiums in Europe, followed by some shows on the east coast. The New York and Boston shows are the ones that make the most sense for me location-wise, but I was just thinking it would be kind of fun to make a little vacation out of it. They'll be in Dublin on July 24th, and it would be amazing to be there, but I don't think I can do that one. Howevah, the announcement also talks about some upcoming dates in the fall:

In September and October, U2 360° Tour will also visit: Atlanta, GA; Charlottesville, VA; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Las Vegas, NV; Los Angeles, CA; Norman, OK; Phoenix, AZ; Tampa, FL; Washington, DC and Vancouver, BC. Complete Tour and ticketing information to follow.

It would be AWESOME to go to Vancouver to see the show!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Did you ever hear of an ambigram before?  I hadn't until today, when I read about this DVD cover for the 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition of The Princess Bride.  Cool.

Sunset on Mars

Yeah, I'm a geek, but tell me that is not amazing.

This is what a good boss does.

Ill. family thanks employees with surprise bonuses: On the day the checks were distributed, Valentin Dima watched as co-workers broke down in tears over their bonus checks. He drove home first, then opened his envelope: $33,000. His wife received a check for a smaller amount, and the two Romanian immigrants have since taken a Caribbean cruise to celebrate.

Rick Roll, Thanksgiving Style.

If you don't count the Keith Haring balloon almost taking out Meredith Viera, this was the best part of the parade.
