Most disturbing marketing idea: Lamisil's toenail-burrowing, nightmare-inducing and horrifying little yellow monster. *shudder* God, I hate that thing. I scream, reaching for the remote every time.
Randomness
I neglected to mention that I had gone to see T3 the weekend it opened, and was happy to find that I really enjoyed it. While I adore the original and like the second one, I had my reservations about a third. The first sequel was never intended to begin with, but they made it work, and in the end the acopalypse was averted, for real. How could they come up with a story that was worth telling? I don't know how they did it, but they made it work, imo. T3's story seemed to grow organically from the first two movies and its conclusion leaves the door open for more Terminator films without having to revert to the "stopping-the-apocalypse" plot of the others. Also, even though the film was packed with action and special effects, the human aspect took front and center. I'll definitely be adding this one to my Terminator collection.
Speaking of movies, I rented two this weekend (well, I actually rented 3, but only watched 2, which always happens so I don't know why I bother renting 3...) - Die Another Day and One Hour Photo. Pierce Brosnan is slowing gaining on Sean Connery as my favorite James Bond. This is definitely one of the better Bond movies (even Mommy liked it), and damn that man just does it for me.
One Hour Photo is a tough one to recommend, but I will, for two things: 1) Robin Williams' performance - I always prefer him when he's being creepy- and 2) the direction and cinematography.
I've read two books since I last updated the reading section: "And Justice There Is None" by Deborah Crombie, and "Sin Killer" by Larry McMurtry. Both great summer reading. And now I'm re-reading "The Lord of the Rings", all three books. I've also got a Richard Jury mystery, "The Blue Last" by Martha Grimes, waiting in the wings. Should be enough reading material for a while.
Finally, and not fitting in with the general theme of this post (hence "Randomness"), I was just outside doing a little weeding and the friendly neighborhood cat that my mother insists on feeding and now considers us his, came trotting into the yard and up the stairs to our deck with a dead baby rabbit in his mouth. Proud as a peacock Barney (the cat) was, until I picked up the welcome mat and fast-walked all the way to the back field and flung the little bunny's body back into the field from whence it came. The joys of country living.

Yes, I'm still here, just busy having a birthday, doing massive amounts of laundry, cleaning and preparing for vacation. I'm on my way out the door for work, so I won't be posting anything until later on. Blogger has updated their publishing system, and as a result, the code for my comments app needed to be updated as well. The comments code update should have been done back in May (as I was instructed), but being me, I put it off. Tonight I was notified that I had to update the blogback code in order for my comments to work, but since I had waited all of my current comments would be lost. Sorry about that. TV's most memorable opening titles, past and present. (The X-Files makes the list, of course) I agree with pretty much all of their choices (except for the shows that I don't watch), and I would add The Partridge Family to the list - who's mind doesn't conjure up that partridge and those eggs when they hear "Come On Get Happy"?
Also, my picks for the best televison theme songs ever are in their list - Hawaii Five-O and Mission: Impossible.

Ever hear of conservative commentator Ann Coulter? She appears frequently as a talking head on various cable news programs and writes a syndicated column (the dropping of which by the National Review Online I just googled upon). I would not recommend anything she writes to anyone (I personally think she is a lunatic), but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this scathing review of her just-published book. Even if you have no idea who she is, it's worth a read.

Bad news followed bad news today, didn't it? The deaths of the Iranian conjoined twins, the workplace shootings in Mississippi, the California shooting. And now Buddy Ebsen is dead! (celebrities, watch your backs) If there was ever a day to stay away from the TV, this was it.
OK, let's lighten things up. Is this supposed to be a real cat??

I hope you're all enjoying the holiday weekend. So far so good around here. I went to a party at a friends' house on Thursday night and we took a walk down to the local fireworks show, which we could see across cove. Except we couldn't see them, due to the low cloud cover. You could hear the boom-booms and the clouds would occasionally glow red or green, but that was about it. You should have seen everyone standing stock still, staring across the water at the sky, not quite sure if they were supposed to stay and watch this.
Yesterday, Sheila and Marty came over for a little picnic and to just hang around. Today, I'm heading down to the yacht club to help my father clean the boat for use. Hopefully, we'll take it out for a spin later on. It's hotter than Dick's hatband here, so a little time out on Long Island sound would be most welcome.
Any good plans for you? Whatever you do, be safe and has a wonderful weekend.
