At first I was like, "Tuesday? WTF? Why Tuesday?" Then I stopped spazzing long enough to realize that Tuesday night at 9:00 is PERFECT for me. I broke up with American Idol a long time ago, and I don't watch anything on Tuesday nights at 9:00 right now, so there's nothing to conflict with; and if V stays in the 8:00 slot, that'll be an awesome 2-hour block.

For those who don't know, Paul is "a comedy about two sci-fi geeks who embark upon a pilgrimage in a RV to the center of America's UFO heartland: Nevada's infamous Area 51. While in the middle of that desert, the two friends encounter a fugitive alien by the name of Paul. Somewhat reluctantly, they embark upon an adventure that will change not just their lives forever, but also the lives of the friends and enemies they encounter along the way." (from imdb)
For someone who loves TV as much as I do, you'd think that Emmy night would be a big deal for me. It isn't.
I "watch" the Emmys (and other award shows) online, on the day after they aired. I just can't be bothered with sitting there for hours, watching the awards go to either the same old, boring people (Jon Cryer? Really?) or to shows and actors that I don't watch (Mad Men, Breaking Bad, 30 Rock...and nowadays, that accounts for most of the winners and nominees, I'm afraid to admit). And for some reason, the older I get, the more self-congratulatory these award shows feel to me.
Instead, I read recaps by my favoriteTV bloggers, look at the red carpet pictures, and watch the highlights on YouTube and the like. Isn't the Internet a wonderful thing?
From what I hear, Neil Patrick Harris did a fabulous job hosting, and Michael Emerson won! YES! YES! And I read that Ricky Gervais was very funny, and there was even a Dr. Horrible clip! Cool.
Let's see if I can find some good videos to share...
NPH's opening song:
Ricky Gervais presents award to Jon Stewart (if only Simon Pegg was there they would have completed my Funny Geek Crush Trifecta):
And finally, Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer highjack the show:
It's not clear whether Ronald Moore, exec producer of the recent series, will be invited to write the screenplay, but Singer will clearly put his own creative stamp on the project, as the studio indicates that the film will be "a complete reimagination."
Glen Larson is aboard to produce.
So, they are going to remake a remake that just wrapped up about 6 months ago? And they're letting the guy responsible for the cheesetastic original be a producer? WHY?
My advice: Skip this. I mean stay VERY far away from it. Nothing good can come of this. Just rent the DVDs of Ron Moore's series and you will not be disappointed.
Battlestar Galactica vet Callum Keith Rennie, who played Leoben Conoy on the sci-fi series, will be joining his former co-star Katee Sackoff on the new season of 24, premiering in January 2010. Callum, who also had a recurring role on Californication and played Harper's Island killer John Wakefield, will be playing Vladimir Laitanan. Co-exectuive producer Brannon Braga describes the character as a Russian syndicate mobster who debuts around episode six or seven.
Weird! If he first appears in episode 6 or 7, I'd bet good money that he's dead by episode 8!
Sad news for those of us who came of age in 80s: Director John Hughes died yesterday from a heart attack at the age of 59.
His career definitely peaked in the 80s (I think Home Alone was the turning point for him, for some reason - he made crap after that), but what a legacy he left: Mr. Mom, Sixteen Candles, National Lampoon's Vacation series, Weird Science, Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Great Outdoors, Uncle Buck...the list goes on. He was one of the first writer/directors to take teenagers and all of their angst seriously, and he really used popular music to great effect.
His films probably seem tame by today's standards, but I think they still stand the test of time, even if I think Molly Ringwald couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.
I was really surprised last night when I went to You Tube and could find almost nothing there! So I had to really search, like the way you do at Marshall's for the good bargains, for these clips of some classic moments from Mr. Hughes' movies.
The Daily Mail UK is a ginormous tabloid, and so this article must be read with that in mind; still, it has the ring of truth about it:
Many in his entourage spoke frankly to me – and that made it possible for me to write authoritatively last December that Michael had six months to live, a claim that, at the time, his official spokesman, Dr Tohme Tohme, called a ‘complete fabrication’. The singer, he told the world, was in ‘fine health’. Six months and one day later, Jackson was dead.
I see that his mother has been given temporary custody of the kids. I hope she keeps them away from that monster of a father Joe Jackson.
"Paul", the new sci-fi comedy written by and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, has pieced together its supporting cast: Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and Jane Lynch have all signed on, in addition to Seth Rogen, who voices the alien the two leads stumble upon on a road trip to the Nevada desert. Greg Mottola directs.
No way. No. Freaking. Way. A movie with Simon Pegg, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig and Jane Lynch is like, I don't know, the Perfect Storm of comedies or something. I am PSYCHED!
The drama, "A Steady Rain" by Keith Huff, is about two Chicago cops whose lifelong friendship is put to the test when they become involved in a domestic dispute in a poor neighborhood.
Holy Hormone Overload. They'll be carrying the women out of there on stretchers.
The action-drama is set to start production on its eighth season at the end of the month, but star Kiefer Sutherland is caught up in an action-drama of his own that threatens to interfere with production.
Sutherland allegedly noggin-knocked clothing designer Jack McCollough at a New York club on Monday night. No charges have been filed, though The New York Daily News and The New York Post are reporting that prosecutors plan to charge the actor with minor assault and that Sutherland intends to surrender as early as tomorrow. Fox, 24 producer 20th TV and Sutherland's publicist had no comment.
While this made for a fun blog post yesterday, it really isn't very funny if he was drunk when it happened. And I really don't care if 24 is delayed, as long as he gets his sh*t together. There were times when I was watching 24 this season where I swore he was drunk. I wonder if the writers exposed Jack to the bio-toxin in order to disguise the slurring? I hope not.
According to reports, the scuffle between Sutherland and McCollough broke out after the designer was seen knocking over actress Brooke Shields.
The incident, which was witnessed by Kiefer and a slew of other attendees, prompted the "24" actor to rush over and assist Shields. Sources tell PIX News, when Sutherland demanded McCollough apologize for the incident, he refused and immediately dismissed the actor. McCollough, who is one half of the fashion design duo Proenza Schouler, was seen shoving Sutherland who responded with a headbutt.
I know it's wrong, but that's hot.
In what alternate universe does that fasion designer live that he thought he could lay the smackdown on Jack??
The 59-year-old star, who played Pam Ewing on 'Dallas', was alleged to have become furious after the housekeeper, Maribel Banegas, took too long walking the dog.
Banegas said she had had to wait because the pet wouldn’t do its 'business', at which point Principal fetched the weapon and pointed it at her.
Oh, so many jokes here...Was it Pam who really shot J.R.? Will her defense be that it was all just a dream?
He hadn't done much work lately, at least nothing that I knew about, but boy was he a favorite in our house, especially in the 70s when he would make all of those appearances on the talk shows. He and Burt Reynolds together were hilarious.
Also hilarious are these clips, featuring Mr. Deluise in Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" and "History of the World, PartI", respectively.
"Fringe proved to be a notable addition to our schedule all season, and it really has fans buzzing as it builds to a fantastic season finale," said Kevin Reilly, president of entertainment at Fox. "J.J. and the whole Bad Robot team have been phenomenal partners, and we look forward to years of making great television with them.”
TMZ is reporting that actor Henry Ian Cusick (who plays the beloved Scottish romantic Desmond on Lost) has been sued for sexual harassment. Accuser Chelsea Stone is also targeting ABC in the lawsuit, since she alleges that the conduct happened while she was working on the show and directly led to her dismissal twelve days later.
Not the kind of thing I want to think about when I watch Desmond. Well, actually, it is, but that's kind of inappropriate.
At least I have an excuse to post a Desmond picture.
"...Conrad confessed that she needed an acting coach to get through her lines, which contained -- as she explained to bloggers and journalists during a phone group hug call yesterday -- "a lot of facts and a lot of big words."...
"I had to say it as if it was coming to me very easily," Conrad said during the phoner, which was attended by The WaPo TeamTV's "Hills" correspondent, Emily Yahr.
"I had to research some of [the words] because the acting coach I worked with told me if I really understood what I was talking about, it would come through a little more true."
