Embattled Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers has withdrawn her nomination.
Her nomination was tearing apart the Republican party, or so it seems. I wonder which old friend and crony Bush will nominate next? He is in a pickle, though, isn't he: If he chooses someone who is outwardly anti-abortion, such a candidate would satisfy his largest consituency but incur the wrath of the entire Democratic party and some moderate Republicans; if not, his pro-life, right-wing support will be ripped away, leaving a gash in the fabric of the Republican party.
