Idol: Eccentric!

Another Wednesday and another Idol audition show, this time from Los Angeles. And really, it's just more of the same - a guy who thinks he's a panther, a guy in a banana suit singing about peanut butter jelly time, a begging montage and a bunch of tragically deluded people.

The only singer who made it to Hollywood that made an impression on me was Brandon Rogers, a backup singer for Christina Aguilera. He was cute and he could sing.

The only thing that made the hour worthwhile was Sherman Pore's audition. Sherman, clearly too old for the competition (at least 60), had collected enough signatures on a petition for him to make it through to the judges. His "lady love of 20 years" had died from cancer just 2 days before the audition and during her sickness they would watch the show together. He came to sing a song for her. It sounds corny, but it really was very touching and genuine.

Oh, wait, there was one more thing that made watching it worthwhile: Seeing Randy try to run after Simon.

Next Tuesday: San Antonio auditions.
