Woo! Now that was an excellent episode! I'm not quite ready with the recap, though, because I spent last night transcribing the awesome map that appeared on the blast door in what was probably the coolest moment yet for this show.

Here's what I was able to decipher. I'll talk about what I think some of the abbreviations mean at the end.

WHY SO MANY DHARMATEL RELAYS IN SUCH AN UNTENABLE (or UNSTABLE ?) LOCATION?

Plus various latin phrases. I haven't gone so far as to translate the Latin, but I've see various translations at TWoP, for instance, and they all seem to be state-of-mind/commentary stuff - "I think, therefore I suffer", "Here there be dragons" - but don't contain any factual information. What's most interesting about the Latin is that it seems to be written in a different hand than everything else. Perhaps Kelvin was the original map-maker and he drew it as he was trying to discover what had happened after the "accident" in 1984. And perhaps Desmond wrote the Latin after Kelvin died. It seems like a Desmond sort of thing to do.

As for what some of it means? How about:

AH/MDG - AH=Alvar Hanso; MDG=Marvin DeGroot; Did they have a falling out in 1985?

Cerberus - in Greek mythology is the 3-headed dog that guards the gates of Hades. I'm pretty sure Cerberus is the black smoke monster security system.

THE FLAME - the only other hatch drawn in a solid line that we have not seen yet.

D.I.H.G. - DHARMA Initiative Hanso Group??

PRD - Periodic Ration Drop? Parachute Ration Drop?

RVS - Remote Viewing Station?

"final resting place of Magnus Hanso/Black Rock" - We know the Black Rock was the shipwreck - perhaps Magnus Hanso is an ancestor of Alvar Hanso's who was on the Black Rock when it sank/wrecked? Maybe Hanso owns the island?

Ursus Maritimus - polar bear (woo!)

Does anyone else have any ideas? Can you fill in any of the blanks or do you have different interpretations of what it says? How much did Locke see? How much will he remember? And what's in the middle?
